Ardill Dunlop House
Located on a sloping block at Greenslopes, the Ardill Dunlop House involved the renovation of a 1930’s double nested gable, timber Queensland home. Major renovations were necessary to improve the poor room layout and to make it climatically responsive. The major design consideration for this project was a large outdoor breezway / deck area that acts as a connection between the existing house and new addition. Large sliding panels on the breezway allow the relationship between indoors and outdoors to be blurred. The new master bedroom wing incorporates a triple layered wall with vental blinds, Crimsafe mesh and Breezway glass louvres. This wall creates a membrane between inside and outside that can regulate light and ventilation while providing security and protection from mosquitoes and flies, a persistent nuisance in south-east Queensland.
