DHL Distribution Centre Berinbah
A major distribution centre on the south-western fringe of Brisbane was designed for DHL, a national freight and warehousing group. The project comprised a warehouse totalling 9,000sqm with 10 metre high eaves and corporate office of 600sqm. The estate was developed by the local authority and external building appearance was a priority. Tilt up concrete facades were heavily articulated with jointing, corrugated formwork and distinctive colour scheme. ESD initiatives included: incorporation of natural light and ventilation; banking warehouse lights; energy efficient lighting; water devices; insulation and recycling water. External hardstand areas were designed for conventional. Vehicle circulation studies were undertaken to maximise efficiency of movement within the site. A site based stormwater management plan (SBSWMP) was integrated into the Industrial Estate stormwater management system that included a network of drainage swales bordering the internal road network.
Biscoe Wilson Architects were engaged by the D&C contractor Ahrens Group to design, document and provide partial services during construction.
